This site is the first entry in its own index. Thirty years of tape, paper, and signal, finally filed in one place. More notes as they're written — the ledger stays open.
The Story
Filed: ongoingBefore there was a network, there was a kid with a stack of price guides, a tape deck, and the conviction that the good stuff never gets played on the big stations.
I got my start in 1996 in affiliate-style broadcasting and underground scene culture — alternative, hard, and industrial rock, learned from the inside, not from a textbook. Around the same time I was publishing collector reference handbooks under What It Is! Publishing: price guides and parts catalogs indexed by hand, priced from real sales, compiled and tracked on computer back when that was worth putting on the cover.
Those two habits — index everything, verify everything — never left. In December 1999 they became the U-Rock® Network. The founder's version of that story lives at johnkevintimothy.com. This site is the other side of it: the songwriter, the collector, the guy who still grades condition before he grades hype.
